Deadly Terrorist Attack on Istanbul Disco

At least 39 dead and over 50 wounded caused by a terrorist attack on an Istanbul discotheque where the New Year was being celebrated. Over 15 dead are said to be foreigners according to media reports. The TV channels of Turkey reported that eight of the wounded are in a critical state and that one of the corpses is that of a security guard of the exclusive facility.

The Reina night club is located at the Bosphorus coast in the Ortakoy neighborhood in Instanbul. Media reports said the assailant(s) entered the nightclub at 1:15 am (22:15 GMT), dressed in Santa Claus costume(s).

In Istanbul, 17,000 police officers were put on duty, some disguised as Santa Claus and others as street vendors, Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported.

Pope Francis from Rome expressed his deepest sorrow and solidarity with the Turkish people on occasion of the terrorist attack on a disco in Istanbul, with a loss of at least 39 dead and dozens wounded.

No entity has claimed for this attack at the moment of writing this article.
